A Slideshow Of Mary's Career

February 2000

After a string of disappointing losses, Mary decided to make the necessary changes. She fired her South African coach Micheal deJongh and decided to rid herself of contact lenses by undergoing Lasir eye surgery. While searching for a replacement for deJongh, Mary talked to her father, Jim and asked for his advice. The father-daughter duo ironed out some of the leftover baggage from their tumultuous past and smoothed the rough edges in the relationship.

Jim suggested to Mary that she hire her brother David as her new coach and hitting partner. Mary contacted David, who readily accepted the offer and the two started working together. Reconciling with her father and hiring her brother gave Mary great peace of mind. She seemed far more confident and controlled when she resurfaced at the State Farm Cup in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the end of February.
