Had a disappointing start to the year. Lost in the 4th round of the Australian Open to Ai Sugiyama. Lost in the quarters of The Adidas International and the first round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

While she was struggling in singles, Mary produced some great results in doubles. With her new partner Martina Hingis, she reached the finals of the Adidas Intenational and the Australian Open, and won the Toray pan Pacific Open doubles title.
