1992 proved to be a very good year for Mary.

 February 1992 Mary won her first title on carpet in Casena, crushing her more experienced compatriot Catherine Tanvier 6-1,6-1 in the final. The tournement marked the first time Mary was seeded #1 at a Tour event. After the tournament, broke into the world's top 20 for the first time.

April 1992 Lost a very close match to Monica Seles in the quarterfinals of the Barcelona Open, after squandering 3 set points in the first set tie break.
