A Slideshow Of Mary's Career

2nd June 1994 Scored an amazing victory over the great Steffi Graf, completely destroying the German in straight sets. Rarely has Graf looked so overwhelmed on court but there was nothing to do but lose to the French girl who ran away with the match 6-2,6-2.  The German who has absolutely dominated women's tennis was out-maneuvered, out-hit, out-thought, and obviously outplayed as Pierce became the first Frenchwoman since Francoisse Durr in 1967 to reach the final.

"It's a dream to play in front of my people and beat the #1 player in the world.everytime I played Steffi and the top players I have felt I had the game to beat them.this time I was focussed and consistent."

The match was interrupted by a rain delay. Graf thought, more like hoped the rain delay would affect Pierce's concentration, but it was not to be. Pierce attacked from both wings and beat Graf at her own game. Some of the shots were blistering to say the least as the shooed the world champion out of the chips. It was as if Mary wrote the book of tennis, making everything look easy.

"It's definitely good for French tennis , Women's Tennis. "said a gracious Steffi after the loss.
