March 1994 After some bad loses at Linz(1st Round) and Paris(2nd Round), Mary approached former coach and mentor, Nick Bollettieri. After a serious discussion about Mary's ambitions and future, Bollettieri agreed to work with her. Bollettieri's prescription for her initially called for a stricter diet, weight training and a rigorous mobility-training program called Foot-works. He also lowered her service toss and altered her follow-through. Bollettieri also hooked Pierce up with Italian coach Sven Groeneveld. In her first tournament ,at Houston, with her new coach, Mary reached the final where she lost to Sabine Hack.
